I’m lucky to have had the opportunity to add audio editing and podcast production to my stable of skills over the past few years.

As a musician, I had been running live sound for years, so I was very familiar with the gear and techniques needed to make a live band sound great. I took a few recording courses in college and, from working in the industry, had a good working knowledge of audio theory and the operation of recording and studio gear.

More and more of my freelance work has been from audio editing, both in Denver and for national clients. I have edited audio for many high-profile clients, including Hewlett Packard, Wild Oats, Qwest, and The 2008 Democratic National Convention.

My home is equipped with a professional voice-over studio and I have a stable of diverse voice-over artists to draw from for specific jobs.

Podcast Intro Demo Reel

Crafting a podcast introduction might be my favorite part of producing a new podcast. It’s usually the only opportunity I have to incorporate music into a podcast. Listeners react to music in such a powerful and emotional way, I feel it is very important to choose the right piece of music to set the tone for a particular podcast.

This demo reel features four of my favorite podcast introductions. It includes intros from the Starz Denver Film Festival Podcast, Qwest All Access Podcast, Hazelden My Story Podcast, and CorePower Yoga Asana of the Month Podcast.

CorePower Yoga “Ask a Yogi” Podcast Series

CorePower Yoga, the largest chain of yoga studios in the country, has a mission of making yoga accessible to the masses. They asked me to develop an audio and video podcast program that would connect with potential customers while also providing information for people who wanted to improve their practice.

The “Ask a Yogi” podcasts feature CorePower Yoga’s most experienced instructors, answering frequently asked yoga-related questions. In this podcast, I wanted to replicate the feel of a yoga class, so the trance-like soundtrack is laid underneath the entire program.

Launched in September 2008, this podcast has become one of the most popular in the iTunes Fitness & Nutrition category.

Interview with Seattle Seahawks Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck

BurstMarketing was hired by Qwest to produce a weekly Seattle Seahawks podcast for the 2008 NFL season. Each week we record an interview with a Seahawks player or coach. The Qwest All Access Podcast is hosted by veteran Denver sportscaster Les Shapiro.

This interview, with Pro Bowl quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, was recorded at the Seahawks training camp. In addition to recording and editing the weekly interview, I also produced the intro, outro, and the Qwest commercial that can be heard midway through the podcast.

Live Reading of Cry Baby by Author David Sedaris

I feel very lucky to work on the Authors on Tour Live! podcast series, which is produced by Burst Marketing. I get the privilege to record the most talented authors on earth as they visit the Tattered Cover bookstore in Denver.

This is an excerpt from an event featuring David Sedaris, on tour promoting When You Are Engulfed in Flames. He is without question the funniest author I’ve seen and, judging by the crowds, you’d think the Rolling Stones were about to perform. In addition to David Sedaris, I’ve also recorded such authors as Garrison Keillor, Madeleine Albright, Carl Bernstein, and Nancy Pelosi.

Poetry Reading of Art of the Soul by Nicholas Pierce

My first opportunity to record poetry, this poem was chosen as one of the winners of the 2007 Lighthouse Writers Workshop’s Writing Contest for Teens. This contest was part of the 2007 Denver One Book One Denver program, sponsored each year by the Denver Office of Cultural Affairs.

Of all the poems and stories I recorded, this one really spoke to me, both because of the words themselves, and also the performance of Concetta Troskie, who was hired to read the winning entries.
